RCMSAR craft tour and presentation

Book Talk follows immediately

As part of the TIMA winter programme, on Friday, 22nd February, the Thetis Island Marine association will welcome the ROYAL CANADIAN MARINE SEARCH AND RESCUE (RCMSAR) group which is based at Ladysmith.  At 6.30pm our visitors  will come by boat and secure at the Government Dock. You are invited to look over the craft.

Remember to bring a flashlight.

At 7.30pm the RCMSAR will deliver a presentation at the Community Centre illustrating their  involvement in this extremely important work of search and rescue. With the federal government recently axing SAR services in our area the Ladysmith RCMSAR will certainly figure prominently in ensuring that we have a local, efficient "lifeline". To this end plans are being made to upgrade their fleet.

After the RCMSAR presentation Gary Geddes, a TIMA Board director, will talk about and read excerpts from his floating memoir  Gary has written and edited more than forty books, but none so intimate and engaging as Sailing Home: A Journey Through Time, Place and Memory.

“Sailing Home is, if you’ll forgive the word, inspiring. Twenty pages into the book, you’ll find yourself selling your car, making a down payment on a boat, and setting out to live the life you’ve always thought you’d like to live. Gary Geddes took the gamble. He’s a little the worse for wear, but he offers us this perfect account of the dreamed voyage.”
