Still No Campfires on Thetis ~

The PROVINCIAL campfire ban has been rescinded for the Coastal Region.  However, the Thetis Island fire service district campfire ban Is still in effect. NO CAMPFIRES ON THETIS ISLAND at this time. We are monitoring the weather and drought situation here on Thetis and we have not had sufficient moisture yet to drop the campfire ban.  We will reassess the situation on Monday.

Fraud Scam Alert

Some of you may have heard of the “Revenue Canada” Scam. The caller states; they are from Revenue Canada and they are advising you that you are being “investigated for improper filing of tax returns, you are under criminal investigation”.  The phone message received today on our phone, came from area code 613-366-3900..

This morning I spoke to the RCMP headquarters in Ladysmith, (Ladysmith detachment is responsible for policing our area community as well).

The Officer advised me that this scam is one of the biggest ones they are attempting to deal with. He also requested that I advise our community of the RCMP Fraud WEB Site; WWW Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. The Web site lists all the major Internet and Phone Scams to date along with other valuable information. The RCMP Ladysmith Detachment Phone Number is; 250-245-2215.

The TIRRA Executive, in discussion with RCMP is planning to have an Officer attend one of our future General Meetings for a community discussion and Q and A session.

Tuesday Yoga Cancelled for September 1st

Just a quick note to let you know that Tuesday yoga will be cancelled next week Sept 1st and we will resume yoga on September 8th.

Try something new for the fall, yoga, tai chi, belly dancing, aikido, weights with Gloria, aerobics with the morning group or simply add a daily walk to your day.

Just do something to move your body gently - it is the best doctor in the whole universe.  Good for your mind, your emotional body and your body too.

Warmly,

Dawn
