Flu Shot Clinic ~ Thanks

Thanks to all of you for your patience and good humour at the Flu Shot Clinic on the 5th.  The two VIHA nurses, Joy and Joanne, gave 93 adult influenza, 5 child influenza, and 17 pneumococcus inoculations during the one hour they had.  Because our Thetis Island Clinic is so successful, they promised to return next year. They hope to be able to offer tetanus/diphtheria as well as the one-time bacterial pneumonia and the 2015 influenza strain vaccinations.

Thanks also go to the TIVFD Auxiliary (Merry Gooding & Gloria Taylor) who supplied the great coffee service, and the Community Fund for their financial support to make this event a success.

We will try to get a "Take A Number " system in place next year for less confusion and exercise, or perhaps music for musical chairs?

Running Club

Susy Fordham and Ted Bieber are once again leading a Running Club of students from Capernwray Harbour.  This year, it will happen on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6:00am.  Our first run was this past Tuesday (Nov 4th).

North Cove Road will be our usual route.

If anyone is interested in further details regarding our running programme, please contact Susy at 246-3158 or sfordham@capernwray.ca .  Islanders are welcome to join.  We move gradually from walking to running - the Sooke 10K run on April 19, 2015 is our goal.

The New Dinner Club~

Ten years ago the monthly Seniors’ Dinner Event was established by a small group of Thetis Islanders who noticed that there was limited opportunity to dine and chat on the Island during the “off season.” Many people have enjoyed these monthly events held at Forbes Hall. Island Cooks have come up with interesting and delicious three course menus, and there are “refreshments available” (the only advertising the BC Liquor Board allows!).

We have had people ask about coming to the dinners although they are not 55 years old….so the TISC (Thetis Island Seniors Committee) has decided to expand the dinners to include any adults who want to attend these special dinner events with other Islanders!

Dinner event reminders are posted on various Island bulletin boards. As well, the menus can be seen on espokes, Thetisblog, and the Hall Bulletin Board along with the deadlines for making reservations. These reservations are essential so our talented cooks can plan and shop “on the other side.” However, we can often squeeze in an extra one or two diners! The $18 fee is paid at the door. Seating starts at 5:30 PM.

Upcoming Dinner Club dates are Dec 14, Jan 11, Feb 15, March 15 & April 19. We welcome you to come and join us at the NEW DINNER CLUB!

The Small Print: All adults are welcome. Unless you cancel your reservation by the deadline date/time you will be responsible for payment If possible you or we can try to arrange for an alternative attendee. If we are alerted in advance, take-out is available if you are ill and unable to attend.

Variety of Items Wanted ~

Wanted - free or cheap metal bed frame for twin bed (no headboard or footboard).

We are also seeking some farm related items including a chicken coop (older is fine), fencing (electric or otherwise).

Also we are looking for one bee hive with bees. A Nuc colony in the spring is fine but we would happily buy one now if any Islanders have one for sale. We have always kept bees but had to sell while relocating and we miss them. If there are no Thetis bees available we will buy from someone on Vancouver Island.

thanks so much Airi

Flu Shot Information for November 5th Clinic

The VIHA nurses have informed us that they will also be bringing influenza vaccine nasal spray for young children needing the flu shot, as well as the bacterial pneumonia vaccine for those over 65 yrs. old requesting it.

Have your BC Medical Card number with you when you attend the Flu Shot Clinic (Wed. Nov. 5, 9:30 - 10:30 at Forbes Hall), and wear something that makes it easy to bare your arm.

The TIVFD Auxiliary will have coffee/tea for you after you get your shot.  You are requested to wait 15 minutes after the vaccination, so you may as well enjoy the company!

Thanks,

TIVFD
