Needing a House/Animal Sitter?

To locals that vacate their properties during the winter or require property maintenance.

I have a good friend who is a professional house/animal sitter, and she just had a cancellation, meaning she is available from now until April!

She brings an absolute wealth of experience and skill sets, has an abundance of references, and is a dedicated gardener and remote living expert (i.e. familiar with water conservation, fire awareness etc).Ideally, she would find a long-term house/animal sit and would offer it as a straight trade (no fees), but other variations of this are possible too.

She is gentle, quiet, kind and a clean, respectful soul who works remotely, so will be a great companion for animals/livestock if you go away for the winters.

I have a whole write up, complete with references, skills, experience etc  about her - if you'd like me to email it your way, please shoot me a text with your email address to 250-327-3860 and I'll get that to you!

Christmas Market (30 November) – Save the Date!

No, it’s not too early to start thinking about the Christmas Market!
Shoppers - get ready to do your Christmas present shopping!
Vendors - definitely not too early to start making those works of art for your stall.

More information will be coming out with details about times and registration, but in the meantime, put that date on your calendar.

Start of School Year (Tuesday, 3 Sept)

Tuesday is the start of the school year. What does that mean for you?

It means there will be children on our roadways walking, biking, accompanying mums/dads with strollers, scooting, and possibly not being as aware of traffic as they should be.

It means you MUST slow down and obey the speed limit on North Cove Road by the school.

It means that you should slow down everywhere else in case there is a child around that blind corner.

It means the days are shortening, grey weather is coming, and we need to keep everyone safe on the roads.

The People’s Apothecary Garden - Plant of the Week #23 - Wormwood

Wormwood… a plant you’d expect to go into a witch’s cauldron.
This highly aromatic plant produces frills of silvery-green foliage, and when used sparingly (small doses only!), it is said to help with various digestive issues from upset stomach to intestinal spasms.

It has also been used to treat fever by stimulating sweating. What it is most known for is its contribution to powerful liquors - vermouth and absinthe.
