A couple of respondents indicated a desire for a cafe.

Thanks again for your participation. The Programming Outreach Committee will be in touch with leaders of previously offered activities to give them a chance to see the hall and discuss preferences for spaces and scheduling. For new activities we will extend an open invitation to begin a conversation about how people might want to share in their various interests.

Other community centres are now offering some low exertion activities so it is hoped that by May, following Covid protocols, the Forbes Hall Community Centre will have a soft opening to enable us to enjoy each others company again.

Your comments, questions, and ideas are always welcome at

Getting Ready for Spring Flowers & Veggie Starts!

We are ready to get creative with your hanging baskets and seasonal planters. You can drop off your labeled containers at the farm anytime over the next 2-3 Saturdays, or organize another time. You can email us, call or leave a note with your requests ie. particular varieties, sun or shade, colour themes, styles etc.... and we'll do our best to fulfill.

If you are interested in flats of bedding plants or this years upcoming annual selections let us know. We can email you bi-weekly availability lists.

Our greenhouses are filling up with 100% organic veggie starts. Stay tuned for this year's tomato and pepper 'menu'. Email us if you have special veggie, herb or flower requests, or would like to know more about our seed varieties etc. All our seeds come from either High Mowing, Johnny's, Baker Creek Heirloom & West Coast Seeds and a few rare varieties saved or traded with other local growers.

Update on Soil/Compost Delivery

Thank you to everyone who has replied regarding compost & top soil delivery. We've got plenty enough for a couple truckloads at least!

**Important Update** Following up on two reviews regarding poor results achieved using Macnutt soil and compost, we've decided to retract that particular offer. We will only bring Earthbank products to the farm for bulk pick up. We can speak from experience of the quality and quality is what matters most when it comes to soil, even if it's just for flower beds.

We will confirm orders and delivery dates this coming Monday. Please continue to place requests and we'll do our best to schedule.

Due to our busy schedule, we are mostly unable to offer bulk delivery to your home from the farm. Please organize with friends and neighbours to borrow a truck or trailer or share in deliveries. We will gladly load you up with our tractor.

With thanks from Farmers Noah, Finn & Elisabeth

Abandoned and Derelict Vessels

You may be interested in this new video documenting the Abandoned and Derelict Vessels issue.

John Roe is featured in this video. The Islands Trust has been working with John, Ryan Greville, and Sheila Malcolmson who are also featured in this short video.

This video nicely shows whats involved in vessel recovery and why it takes some time to gather the people and resources necessary to launch a recovery initiative.

John has recently been successful in securing funding for another wave of vessel recovery. The Catamaran in Telegraph Harbour is one of the vessels on the list for this season.

This video created by Pacific Yachting and BC Boating with funding from Industry and Government is a terrific example of collaboration to solve a serious problem.

Top Soil & Compost

It's time to place your orders for top soil, garden compost and certified organic fish mulch. Jollity Farm will be organizing at least two bulk deliveries in March.

Your requests will somewhat help to shape the delivery, although one truckload of certified organic fish compost is definitely on order. It's more expensive it, but worth it. The foundation of good food, is good soil!

As all islanders know, it's the delivery cost that really ups the cost. All prices below include the delivery fee which ranges between the 2 companies from $460 - 650/load.

Earthbank:
Certified organic fish compost - $90/yd
High-quality professional-grade top soil (mixed with organic fish compost) - $90/yd
MacNutt:
Garden soil (peat, chicken compost, loam, mixed compost) - chicken & compost from mixed sources not organic* - $54/yd
Chicken manure - $70/yd
Fish compost/mulch - $70/yd

*Fish compost from MacNutt comes from local canneries so material is made up of mixed sources, so could be blend of wild & farmed
*Chicken manure comes from local poultry farms so material is made up of mixed sources and one can assume trace amounts of gmo grains, medicated feeds etc.
*We do not use either of the 2 mentioned above for our vegetable growing. Unfortunately pro-cert from Cinnabar Valley is not available in bulk at this time.
