News Release: Poetry in Transit - Gary Geddes

VANCOUVER – The Association of Book Publishers of BC announces its 2022/23 Poetry in Transit Program in Partnership with TransLink

The Association of Book Publishers of BC (ABPBC) is excited to announce the 2022/23 Poetry in Transit program.

Each year a collection of bus cards are produced featuring the work of Canadian-published poets residing in BC. Now celebrating its 26th year, this community-engagement project, made possible through a partnership with TransLink and BC Transit, is an opportunity to showcase BC’s regional poets. This year for the first time, the poetry selections have also been paired with the work of local photographers sourced through an Instagram photo competition led by TransLink.

The 2022/23 Poetry in Transit poets and featured books are:

Selina Boan, Vancouver Undoing Hours (Nightwood Editions)

Joseph Dandurand, Fort Langley The East Side of It All (Nightwood Editions)

Henry Doyle, Vancouver No Shelter (Anvil Press)

Leanne Dunic, Vancouver One and Half of You (Talonbooks)

Gary Geddes, Thetis Island The Oysters I Bring to Banquets (Guernica Editions)

Bára Hladík, Vancouver New Infinity (Metatron Press)

Shaun Robinson, Vancouver If You Discover a Fire (Brick Books)

Ellie Sawatzky, Vancouver None of This Belongs to Me (Nightwood Editions)

Isabella Wang, New Westminster Pebble Swing (Nightwood Editions)

Terence Young, Victoria Smithereens (Harbour Publishing)

Poetry in Transit has been running since 1996, making it the longest-running poetry on transit program in Canada. To be eligible for the program, submitted poems must be written by writers who reside in BC and published in book form by a Canadian publisher. Poems are submitted by publishers and selected by a jury. The 2022/23 jury included poets Evelyn Lau and Rob Taylor.

Seven of the featured poets will be reading at an in-person event as part of the Word Vancouver festival, Sunday, September 25th at 2:30 p.m. Join host Evelyn Lau for readings by Joseph Dandurand, Henry Doyle, Leanne Dunic, Bára Hladík, Ellie Sawatzky, Isabella Wang, and Terence Young. Find the program information at wordvancouver.ca

We invite you to share the Poetry in Transit 2022/23 program through the linked graphic assets as well as any sightings of the 2022/23 Poetry in Transit bus cards using the #PoetryInTransit hashtag.
