Campfire Ban to be Lifted Saturday on Thetis

The solid fuel campfire ban will be lifted on Saturday, September 24th on Thetis Island and evening campfire permits will be available for the period of Sept. 24 to October 31st.  Burn barrels, yard waste piles, fireworks, sky lanterns are still banned at this time.  Evening campfires must be smaller than 18” and you must have water and tools sufficient for extinguishing your fire until it is cold to touch. There must be a responsible adult supervising the campfire at all times.

WE ARE CONTINUING IN EXTREME FIRE HAZARD for at least the next several days.  The Rating is still 5.  We use three reporting stations for our data: North Cowichan, Salt Spring and Cedar and average them and they are continuing at 5-EXTREME.  You can check the daily ratings here:

https://wfapps.nrs.gov.bc.ca/pub/wfwx-danger-summary-war/dangerSummary fireCentre=Coastal%20Fire%20Centre

To apply for a fire permit, go to www.thetisislandfire.ca and chose the Fire Permits link on the left side of the Home Page.

Please continue to be extremely careful, especially with campfires.

Make them small and sparkless.

There have been more human-caused bushfires this past week in our region, with multiple fire departments having to attend.
