The Fire Danger Class is dropping to LOW for the next few days, at least until the weekend, due to the fire weather forecast for continuing rain and lower seasonal temperature until another ridge of High Pressure builds.
The Province is still prohibiting campfires and all outdoor burning: This prohibition will be in place until 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, or until the order is rescinded.

A care-free, dependable, and common fellow, yarrow packs a punch when it comes to its medicinal value. It has been used for millennia for treating wounds, fighting illness, as a digestive aid and blood tonic, and for menstrual problems. It is identified by its feathery leaves and cluster of tiny flowers, which are often white, but come in bright colours, such as pink, purple, orange, and yellow.
Warning! Yarrow has many look-alikes, including Queen Ann’s lace and poison hemlock - which, as the name denotes, is highly toxic and can be fatal - so please be 100+++% sure when ID-ing this plant.

Some of you may have heard a “boom” at 6:38 pm Friday evening. That was the Canadian Military, accompanied by the TIVFD, at an undisclosed location, blowing up a US Military Incendiary Marine Marker that had washed ashore on a Thetis beach Friday morning.
If you find any strange looking objects, especially ones that say DO NOT HANDLE - CALL EMERGENCY SERVICES, please don’t touch the device. Call 911 or the Fire Department. Please tell your kids to not touch and to tell an adult if they discover something metallic and strange on the beach, and then you can alert us.
The ordinance that was dealt with Friday evening was still live and explosive and could have injured somebody if not handled properly by the trained experts.
