A reminder that the Thetis Island Improvement District (TIID) will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday May 13th, 2023 at Forbes Hall Community Center starting at 11 AM. This is a public meeting, and all are welcome. There will be an election at the conclusion of the meeting. The information regarding voter eligibility follows the agenda in this message.
AGENDA
• Territorial acknowledgement
• Call to order and welcome
• Opening remarks and introductions
• Approval of the July 9th, 2022 AGM minutes
• Trustee Remuneration
• Audit report/financials/2023 budget update
• Committee reports
• Fire department report
• Trustee election
• Adjourn
• We will begin checking people in at 10:30 AM.
• To be eligible to vote you must be:
• A Canadian citizen
• 18 years or older
• A resident of BC for at least 6 months prior to the vote
• And own land in the Improvement District
Each elector gets one vote; if two people are on title, they each get a vote; if you own more than one property you still get only one vote. Corporations must designate who will vote on its behalf.
Our list of landowners is current up to March 31, 2023.
If someone thinks they are eligible to vote but are not on the landowners list, they may sign a statutory declaration.
Coffee, tea and cookies will be available.
See you Saturday,
Keith Rush Chair

Unseasonably hot weather will develop over coastal BC beginning Friday.
Timespan: Friday though Tuesday.
Hazards: Daytime highs reaching into the high 20s to low 30s with overnight lows in the low to mid-teens.
The South Coast and inland areas of the north and central BC coast will experience unseasonably hot weather beginning on Friday. The highest temperatures are expected on Sunday and Monday.
Daytime highs will be 10 to 15 degrees Celsius above seasonal values while overnight lows will be 5 to 10 degrees above what is normally experienced this time of year.
Freezing levels will rise throughout this event leading to increased snowpack melting with possible local flooding due to high stream flow levels.
With elevated temperatures, the risk of heat related illnesses will increase.
While the developing heat may result in daily temperature records being broken, it must be emphasized that the expected hot conditions will not approach those reached during the "Heat Dome" of late June 2021.

We need a septic pump out. We are wondering if there is anyone else on Thetis Island who needs a pump out so that we can share costs. Apparently, you need to have your septic pumped out every 5 years.
Please let us know if you are interested.

This is just a reminder to call 911 if you have an electrical fire with a small appliance, even if you quickly extinguish it yourself (…the training at the annual fire extinguisher clinic does come in handy!). If you call 911 and explain it has been extinguished, a TIVFD officer will still attend and take down the manufacturer, make, model and issue with the appliance in a short fire report to the Office of the Fire Commissioner. This is what generates appliance recalls.
Stove and dryer fires should always be checked out by the fire department…we have thermal imaging cameras to check for smoulder or fire extension into walls or cupboards.
Always check for certification marks, such as CSA, cUL, or cETL, before purchasing electrical products that plug into an electrical outlet. These marks indicate that the products are assessed and conform to the required Canadian national safety standard. That so-much-cheaper non-certified appliance purchase may cost you much more in the long run.
