Post Office: No Mail Delivery

As some of you may know there is no mail delivery currently in place for Thetis and Penelakut.  I have picked up the mail for Tuesday September 6.  Currently  we are trying to get direction from Canada Post without much luck.

I will try again tomorrow but cannot promise consistent delivery for the rest of the week until Canada Post gets in touch and gives some direction.

I will keep you posted (pun intended)

We Aren’t Out of The Woods Yet: Extreme Fire Hazard

We didn’t quite make it to three consecutive days of HIGH Fire Hazard weather and forest conditions, and it looks like we have to face another week of very warm weather with drying winds.  All three reporting stations’ data that we use are back up to EXTREME, despite that little glitch of rain on Sunday.  Therefore, we will continue in EXTREME FIRE HAZARD for the rest of the week.  No High Hazard Activities will be permitted near forest, bush or grassland.  We will post on ESPOKES when conditions change enough to lower the Hazard Rating here. Hang in there for another week until we can get back to cooler, damper weather.

Here is the fire weather forecast for the next few days:
OUTLOOK: An upper trough is forecast to swing across the Coast on Wednesday generating some cloud, cooler temperatures, and gusty westerly winds. Precipitation accompanying the trough will be light and once again confined to the North and Mid Coasts. The most significant change with the passing trough will be the shift in wind direction from west to northwest late in the day Wednesday. A new ridge of high pressure will then build offshore on Thursday and Friday, placing the Fire Centre in a dry northerly flow. As conditions heat up once again, an outflow pattern will develop on Friday resulting in hot and dry weather, quite atypical for the second week of September. Rainfall continues to elude the South Coat for the foreseeable future.
CONFIDENCE/DISCUSSION: Good confidence with the relatively cool and less windy pattern today. Also, goo confidence in the hot and dry weather building Tuesday followed by winds on Wednesday.
6 TO 10 DAY: Our next round of hot weather looks to persist until Saturday followed by a marked cool-down beginning Sunday. Next week looks much more fall-like with below seasonal temperatures. There are slight chances of light rainfall reaching the South Coast towards the middle of next week but there’s no sign of any significant rainfall for still some time.

The Songbird of Vienna at the Vancouver Fringe Festival - it's happening now!

A big thanks to all those people who have asked about the Vancouver Fringe Festival and my upcoming performances. A fringe festival is a theatre festival for small shows, many of them solo shows that don't fit into "big" theatre.  It is a little bit like "off off Broadway".  Most of the shows at the Vancouver Fringe Festival are located at theatres actually on Granville Island but there are also a couple of theatres not right on the island . Nine shows including mine will be appearing at the little theatre called Studio 16 which is part of the Maison de la Francophonie at 1555 - 1551 W 7th Avenue, Vancouver. It's very close by, just a 5 -minute walk.

The schedule for me is:
Thursday, Sept 8th - 6:20pm - Opening night!!
Saturday, Sept 10th - 4:35pm
Monday, Sept 12th - 3:30pm
Tuesday, Sept 13th - 10:20pm
Thursday, Sept 15th - 8:05pm
Saturday, Sept 17th - 6:20pm
Tickets can be bought online or right at the door.

https://www.vancouverfringe.com/festival/the-songbird-of-vienna/

The Songbird of Vienna is a wonderful story. It is 50 minutes long, heart-warming and family friendly. It begins like this:
It's the late 1800's in Vienna, the glittering capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Famed as a musical powerhouse, the city has been home to such spectacular talents past and present as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Strauss. Hopeful young composers flock there but not all of them find success. One of the unlucky is Franz. Having given up, his dreams crushed, Franz is waiting for a coach to take him back to his hometown when he discovers a baby bird in distress. He rescues this tiny spark of life. One thing leads to another and through this small act of kindness his fortunes change. Luck, hard work and inspiration, love, friendship and confidence all play their roles on the way to a happy ending. This is a story for anyone who has ever felt the joy of rescuing an animal and seeing it thrive - and it's a story for anyone who has ever dreamed a dream and tried to make that dream come true.

Yesterday was the big rehearsal at the theatre. The 7th is the opening night party for the festival and the next day is my opening night.  Wish me luck - and if you know anybody in Vancouver who enjoys theatre, please spread the word.
