ThINC Project -Re- Generation Update

Good day Thetis Islanders,

Last week ThINC concluded their first session of Project -Re- Generation (aka ReGen)! Although I may sound like a broken record, for those who are not familiar with the program, ReGen is an immersive place- and project-based learning experience designed to inspire, activate, and empower youth to become engaged community members through regenerative action.

Over an eight-week period, a group of six young learners met three times per week to explore diverse themes on the topics of sustainability and nature; met with and learned from numerous community members; and collaborated on a couple projects that took place at the Pollinator Garden at The Portal. To learn more about the program, the team, and our project, see here: https://www.thetisislandnatureconservancy.org/sustainability-programs

And to hear from the students about what they got up to, check out the ThINC blog: https://www.thetisislandnatureconservancy.org/blog

Thanks, and I hope all is well!

High Hazard: Early Shift Work

Please remember that we are still in HIGH Hazard rating for wildfire, which means that we are on “early shift”.

Chainsawing, milling, mowing etc. must cease by 1 o’clock in the afternoon, and a two hour fire watch posted.

This means you should plan your work to start early (7 am gives you six hours)so you can be done by 1 pm.

Thank you for your cooperation.

2nd Covid Vaccination Clinic on Thetis

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has announced that invitations are now being sent out for second doses of COVID-19 vaccines at 8 weeks from the time of the first dose being administered.

Island Health conducted a whole community clinic for age 80+ residents of Thetis Island in March, and therefore residents who were vaccinated at that time should be receiving invitations to book second doses. If you are over age 80 and had your first dose more than eight weeks ago, but have not received a notification to book your second dose by Saturday, May 29, you may not be registered in the provincial vaccination booking system. Please register by going to www.GetVaccinated.gov.bc.ca or call 1-833-838-2323 for support.

Island Health’s immunization teams will return to Thetis Island to provide second doses, along with first doses for those who have not yet been vaccinated including 12-17 year olds.
We will hold a second dose clinic in your community before July 1. Once the date is confirmed, we will notify the community at least 48 hours before we open for booking into these clinics.

Residents who have received notification they are eligible for their second dose are encouraged to wait to book when the clinics take place in your community. However, people may choose to try to book earlier into an ongoing clinic in the closest major centre, such as Duncan or Ladysmith.

• For more information about the provincial registration system or how to get vaccinated for COVID-19 visit the BC government website.

• For information on Island Health’s Whole Community Clinics visit the Island Health website

• For information on Island Health’s ongoing vaccine clinics visit the Island Health website. If you have questions about Island Health’s clinics in your region please contact Kristen Gregson, Area Director, Central Island Immunization Sites, at 250-217-5939 or at Kristen.Gregson@viha.ca.
