Thetis Island School - Succulents Wanted

We are planning on making a succulent garden on the school grounds of Thetis Island Elementary School in an area that is overgrown with blackberries. We are asking for donations of succulents for the school from community members. You can drop off donations of succulents at the school, next week on the 26th, 27th and 28th. You can leave them on the desk outside the school. If you don't have any right away that is fine we can add them to the garden later.

Thank you so much for your donations.

National Volunteer Week 2021 - April 18-24

Greetings all Thetis Island Volunteers

Thetis volunteers are included in the significant contribution of BC’s almost 1.5 million BC volunteers who dedicate over 114 million hours to help others.

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is Canada’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. The theme for 2021, The Value of One, The Power of Many, reflects on the awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals.

Despite the pandemic, volunteers continue to deliver essential services. These volunteers make our communities stronger, especially during times of need.

Many thanks to all of you for all you do.

Call for Nominations to TICA Board

With the upcoming AGM on April 24, the TICA Board is seeking new members for either a one or two-year term. This is a great opportunity to be part of the exciting reopening and reorganization at the Hall. Positions on the board may involve general hall operations, fundraising, community relations, and programming.

If you are interested in being nominated to the TICA Board or would like additional information, please email hall@thetisisland.net

Due to the nature of this virtual meeting there will be no nominations from the floor at the AGM.

Question re Best Cell Phone Reception and Smart Hubs on Thetis West Side?

I’m about to sign up for a new mobile phone plan and  new phone and wondering re best provider .  I have reasonably good but not perfect cellular reception with TELUS  at my place and a good rate plan. I’m west side waterfront on Cunningham/ foster point road ,very near the ferry terminal.  In the past TELUS  network seemed the best option for island coverage but rogers I think may now have  5 G  in the area, i think TELUS does not.     Anyone on the west side near me know if rogers or TELUS does have 5 G?  And how solid is their signal ?    My current phone does not have 5 g capacity so i don’t know.

Also does anyone with good cell signals  have much experience with the cellular hubs ?   I am blessed with wired TELUS 15  internet that is pretty stable  due to my location .  But curious if I should look at the other options?

Top Soil & Compost Update

Thanks to everyone who has ordered soil & compost. Most people have collected their compost at this point. If we missed your order or there are enough new requests for another truckload (= 20 yards) we can get that ball rollin. Just let us know. The updated cost for certified organic fish compost is $110/yd. We are sharing compost 'at cost' and only a $5/yd tractor and handling fee included in this price. Transportation costs were raised from the original cost due to labour and fuel increases at Earthbank.

Top Soil - as most of you know, the top soil delivery was delayed as previously the material was too wet and therefore too heavy for a full truck load. We've had regular updates from Earthbank and anticipate deliveries next week. Once we have confirmation we'll email or call you to arrange pick up.

With thanks from farmers Noah, Elisabeth & Finn
