Fire Hazard Rating

Due to the increased outflow WINDS and fast warming weather the southern Vancouver Island fire hazard is rapidly changing.  We have already moved up to MODERATE hazard.  Bush fires are occurring daily in the Cowichan Valley, all due to backyard burns getting out of hand.  Tuesday afternoon Maple Bay had another brush fire called in by a jogger who saw an unattended burn pile escape to the woods.  And late Tuesday afternoon several fire halls had to action a brush fire in North Cowichan Municipality and evacuate a family home that was threatened.

For those of you with Yard Waste fire permits valid until the end of April, please keep an eye on eSPOKES daily.  If we have to close down yard waste fires due to rapidly changing conditions we will post here.

In the meantime, DON'T LEAVE YOUR BURN PILE UNATTENDED.. Make sure it is totally extinguished before sunset with water so that no embers will blow up during the night.

Thank you,

TIVFD
