Josephine Margaret Ateah passes ~

Josephine Margaret Ateah (nee Forbes), a long time resident of Thetis Island, passed away on Friday, March 14th, after a long stay at the Chemainus Extended Care Unit. She was 95 years old.

'Auntie Jo', born in London in Dec 1918, first came to Thetis Island as a baby in 1919 and had been in love with the island ever since. Many of you will remember Jo when she and her late husband Aman ran Overbury Farm Resort after her parents Rupert and Laura Forbes 'retired' to the small house on the property.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Chemainus Extended Care who knew Jo during her last years. She was a very special person to all of them. She will be missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on a date still to be determined.

Richard Jerman Update

Richard Jerman’s application for permanent residency has been approved in principal on Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds.  This allows Richard to stay in Canada while he completes the rest of the necessary documentation which will now be required.

He continues to voice his gratitude for all the support he has received to be allowed to stay with his family.  He said that Elizabeth May personally delivered his application and supporting letters to the Minister of Immigration.
