Saturday, October 1, 2022 – start time 10:00 am

Join us for a fun day working with your friends and neighbours to get Forbes Hall ship-shape, ready for the busy season!

Please contact info@forbeshall.ca to let us know you’re coming to help out.
Lunch will be served to all those who turn out! (Another reason to let us know you’ll be coming.)

Lots of jobs to be done; gutters cleaned, windows cleaned, screens installed, storage organization, chairs to be moved & their feet to be installed, sweeping and cleaning the pavilion, making sense of bits and pieces, organizing and tidying the basement, and cleaning the basement floor.

Looking forward to seeing lots of happy, helpful faces on Saturday, October 1st.

Remember to let us know you’re coming: info@forbeshall.ca

ThINC Newsletter: The Ripple

ThINC's fall issue of The Ripple is now out! Our summer employees, Connelly Stirling and Linnea Barrett wrote two great articles that outline some of the things ThINC got up to during the summer. A few paper copies will be put around the community: the post office, ferry terminal, and at Forbes Hall library.

To see the digital copy, please follow the link below:

Happy fall!

The library is open from 10am to 1pm today- that is this Monday and next Monday. The following Monday as well.

Let’s not quibble… Monday is Monday.

Wait another Week

We are going to delay campfire permits for another week.  Those who have already applied for a campfire permit do not need to apply again - we will send out your permit for October on the first. If you have not already applied, you can go to www.thetisislandfire.ca and select Fire Permits on the left side of the home page. You will be sent your permit on or after October 1st if the weather cooperates and we can drop from EXTREME fire hazard rating to HIGH.

In the meantime, propane campfire appliances do not require a permit.

If you have any questions about High Hazard Activities during the EXTREME rating, please check our website for details.

School Zone Sign

Many of you will have noticed the bright yellow School Zone signs the fire department had purchased to help keep our community children a bit safer.

But you may not know that Emcon Road Services and our road maintenance contractor Joe Lange donated the time and labour to fit and place the signs to remind drivers to slow down.

Thank you, Joe and Emcon.

Saturday Library

I, Ken Redman, will be your friendly and welcoming librarian for today.

As such, I would like to invite anyone who has been reading Yuval Harari’s books( Homo Sapiens, Homo Deus) to come along to our reading space and talk a bit about his ideas. For example, I would love to discover what another Islander might think about Harari’s assertions regarding humans as bio/chemical algorithms, his AI concerns as we move toward super computers which might talk to each other sans human actions… among a couple of his ideas.

Hope to see… someone to help me out.

Of course, simply seeking and changing books is always welcome!

Ken
