Michelle Merlindt Performing at the Vancouver Fringe Festival

Big news!  As some of you have already heard, I will be performing at the Vancouver Fringe Festival this September.

I will be telling a wonderful story called "The Songbird of Vienna".
Details are now confirmed and the festival has assigned me to the little theatre called "Studio 16" which is part of La Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver, located at 1555 W 7th Avenue between Fir St. and Granville St (but despite the venue my performance is in English not French)
I give 6 performances over the course of the festival and the first one is on the festival's opening night September 8th at 7pm!
The others are: Sept 10 at 4:45pm,
Sept 12 at 3pm,
Sept 13 at 10:15pm
Sept 15 at 8:45pm
and the last, Sept 17 at 7pm.
Tickets for the festival are now on sale.  Everything you need to know is on the VFF website.  I'm excited and nervous.  Wish me luck!

News re Charlie Fordham, Capernwray

Dear Friends,

We wanted to fill the community in on some recent events regarding Charlie Fordham, who many of you know personally.  (He and his wife Marlene arrived on Thetis in 1979 and founded Capernwray Harbour Bible Centre.)

A couple of weeks ago Charlie experienced what was thought to be a stroke in one of his eyes resulting in a complete loss of vision in that eye.  Over the following days the situation developed, and he was in the hospital for almost a week, and diagnosed with a rare form of Temporal Arteritis.  Unfortunately, over that time his condition worsened, and he lost sight in his other eye as well, and is now completely blind.

Charlie has been home for three days now and we are working together as a family and a staff community to provide the best care that we can for him and Marlene moving forward.  Needless to say, it will be a long journey for each of us as we adjust to this new season.

Charlie is in good spirits and seems otherwise healthy and feeling well, learning new routines and ways of going about his day.  You may see him on the ferry or around our property if you happen be here when he is out and about with a helper to guide him.  He would, of course, be encouraged to hear your voice and have a chat if you have a moment.

We don't take for granted the wonderful place in which we live and the care that Charlie has been able to receive.  We are grateful to live in a wonderful community like Thetis Island and we thank you for your support in this time.

Chris Fordham
